Cub Scout Program

Cub Scouts is a fun, family-centered program for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade that helps build confidence, character, and lifelong friendships through hands-on adventures. Families make memories together while exploring the outdoors, serving their communities, learning new skills, and having fun!
How it Works:
Scouts are grouped by grade level into a Den, where they participate in age-appropriate activities led by trained volunteer Den Leaders and supported by parents and caregivers. Each Scout works through a handbook filled with adventures designed to develop skills, encourage teamwork, and celebrate achievements.
All of the Dens together make up a Pack, creating a welcoming community where families enjoy campouts, hikes, Pinewood Derby races, service projects, and other exciting events throughout the year. With a strong focus on family involvement, outdoor experiences, and fun, Cub Scouts provides a supportive environment where youth can grow, explore, and discover their potential.
Flexible Adventures For Every Family
Every family is different, and Cub Scouts is designed to fit a variety of schedules and interests. Packs and Dens plan activities that allow families to participate in ways that work best for them while still providing meaningful experiences for Scouts.
From camping and outdoor adventures to Pinewood Derby, STEM activities, service projects, sports, and learning new skills, Cub Scouts offers opportunities for every interest. Many youth participate in Scouting while also enjoying other activities like sports, music, academics, and more.
Families can be involved as much as their schedules allow, and Packs often work with families to create a balance that makes Scouting a positive addition to the activities your child already enjoys.

Program Costs
In addition to the national registration fee, Packs may collect dues to help cover awards, handbooks, activities, camping, and other program expenses. Costs vary by Pack, so be sure to ask your local Pack about their annual dues and fundraising opportunities.
If cost is a concern, don't let that keep your family from joining. Many Packs and councils offer financial assistance to help make Scouting accessible for every youth.
Building Character, Confidence, and Leadership
Cub Scouts helps youth grow into confident, capable, and caring individuals through hands-on adventures, teamwork, and service. As Scouts explore new activities, solve challenges, and work together with their Den and Pack, they develop leadership skills, build self-confidence, and learn the importance of responsibility, respect, and perseverance.
Service is an important part of the Cub Scout experience. Families, Dens, and Packs work together on projects that strengthen their communities while teaching Scouts the value of helping others and making a positive difference.
The values of Cub Scouting are rooted in the Scout Law, which serves as a guide for everyday life. A Scout strives to be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent—principles that inspire youth to make good choices, lead by example, and become responsible citizens.
Scouting Safely
Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our Scouts.
Scouting America is committed to providing a safe, positive environment where youth can learn, grow, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful adventures. The program is built on strong youth protection policies, safety guidelines, and trained adult leadership.
All registered volunteer leaders complete the required Safeguarding Youth Training, undergo a criminal background check, follow mandatory reporting procedures, and adhere to two-deep leadership practices. Erie Shores Council provides ongoing training and resources to help volunteers deliver safe, engaging, and impactful Scouting experiences.

Families Make Scouting Possible
Cub Scouts is a family program, and families are an important part of what makes the experience special. Every Pack is supported by dedicated volunteers who give their time to create fun, meaningful adventures for Scouts. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to get involved, whether by helping at activities, supporting their Scout's Den, or serving as a volunteer leader.
Whether you have a little time or a lot, there are many ways to support your Scout's experience. Every family has a place in Cub Scouting!
Is Scouting In My Neighborhood?
Absolutely! Cub Scout Packs are located throughout our communities and are often connected with schools, places of worship, community organizations, and other local groups close to home.
Most Packs meet regularly at a location that is convenient for local families and provide opportunities for Scouts to learn, explore, and build friendships with others in their area.
